So it begins…

To the Denver Parking Violations bureau:

Who would be the proper group to speak to about a street sweeping problem.  I just paid a parking citation I received for being parked on the wrong side of the road during a street sweeping day.  However, Denver or its contracted subsidiary choose to not do street sweeping that day at all on the street.

While I certainly don’t have a problem with being held accountable for my parking injustice who do I hold accountable for the city not doing its job?

Bustin Chops - NBA and ESPN

by thoth on May.29, 2009, under Uncategorized

I sit here a little deflated.  I expected to have force and drive behind this Bustin Chops.  I thought I would be sitting here lamenting another 1 point victory by the lakers predicated by the completely unbiased (insert sarcasm here) officiating that has served this series.  Instead I sit here deflated.  The nuggets, my band wagon team this year, decided they were not even going to show up for game 6.  The officials didn’t even have to call an y BS calls, the Lakers took care of business all on their lonesome, for the first time in the series.  That’s what bugs me about the NBA.  If the NBA ever wonders why you are a third rate sport being football and baseball (hell in some parts behind Hockey), look not further than there style.  The NBA has more in common with the WWE than they might think.  At least wrestling is honest about their entertainment setup.

One Game.  The Lakers outplayed the Nuggets in a single game, and they walk away the victors.  That is a frustrating piece of NBA style.  The NBA wants a Kobe/Lebron showdown, and by god they are going to get it.  The announcers are giddy with anticipation, talking about how Lebron is “commanding” the series and is destined to dual kobe(at the time this was said, Cleveland is down 2 games to Orlando’s 3).  Apparently Orlando didn’t get the memo that the T-shirts are already printed.  One game though, the Nuggets have outplayed the Lakers in the first 5 games, in a healthy majority of the quarters, and victory was snatched away several times by foul trouble and poor calls.  I feel for Coach Karl, having to answer reporters questions about the officiating, making sure he treads lightly save that he would get penalized.  This is frankly laughable.  A groups officiating is so lopsided, so audacious that they have the nerve to fine any basketball player/coach for mentioning the calling.  Is the NBA so aware of the favoritism in their league that they would do this?!  The answer is a resounding yes.

But the Lakers got the Nuggets in one game….the game that counted.  It is frustrating to watch officiating dictate the outcome of a game.  It is more frustrating to watch your team completely choke in the most important game of the season.  So it goes.

On another note, ESPN also needs to have their chops busted.  I have had the displeasure of watching ESPN coverage of the Lakers/Nuggets games, and here are a couple points I would like to make.  First, WE ALL GET IT, ESPN likes the Lakers, this is very clear.  However, and this is a confusing point, you can’t talk about how great a person is after they have raped someone.  Rapists are not good people.  Rapists can be great basketball players, exceptional even.  They can’t be good people.  Good people don’t rape women, confusing but oddly true.  I get ESPN has a love crush on Kobe, and that’s fine.  Just don’t say he is a great person.  Do you know who thinks he isn’t a great person?  The girl he raped.  Here is a good example.  O.J. Simpson is a celebrated athlete.  He is NOT a good person.  He killed people.  If Kobe was not a master of basketball that he is, he would be 34573902, Kobert the bus driving rapist.  Celebrate his team, celebrate the members of his team that haven’t raped a woman.

NBA and ESPN, consider your chops busted!

The Last Week’s Review

by thoth on Apr.06, 2009, under Uncategorized

What a week we had last week, so many different topics to cover, where to begin?!

The first item up for discussion has to be the Denver Bronco/Chicago Bear trade of Kyle Orton and Jay Cutler.  Now this is of course not a sports related blog in any way shape or form, but contrary to popular thought, some nerds do enjoy professional sports.  Along these lines, given that I am a huge fan of the Denver Broncos and will celebrate them to the end of my days, discussing the Broncos is certainly within nerdom protocol especially given the monumental trade that took place.  Its interesting how the media and fans can have such a wide array of views on the subject when there has been little information when it comes to what has actually transpired the last few weeks to warrant a trade of Jay Cutler.  It is this lack of information which amazes me on two fronts.  First, too many media personalities are willing to treat speculation as fact and second, even in something as trivial(in the grand scheme of things) as sports people will bend the facts to bolster their own opinion.  Case in point, I heard some people who i very much enjoy listening too in the political and tech arenas weigh in on the situation and I was less than impressed.

“Just because he (Josh McDaniels) is taking risks, doesn’t mean he is wrong.”  This is a ridiculous statement and anyone making this should be smacked in the face.  Of course it doesn’t mean that he is wrong, but on the same token, it doesn’t mean he is right either!

“Pat Bowlen is not going to fire Josh McDaniel’s, he has 12 million reasons not to do so.”  Because someone gets paid a lot of money does not mean that they are free from poor judgment.  12 million dollars could be a walk in the park if McDaniels damages the Broncos.

“Nobody is giving McDaniels a chance.”  This is one of my favorites.  How do you make this argument when these are the facts: Josh McDaniels is young, has never been a head coach, and comes from a program (New England) which is notorious for promoting assistant coaches who suck as head coaches.  On the other hand, Jay Cutler is a 25 year old probowl quarterback.  Once can piss and moan about Jay’s emotional maturity, which could be less than ideal, but has he not earned the right to be given a little bit of the benefit of the doubt.

I don’t understand Denver’s fascination with Shiny/New = Good/Right.  Alas, it is all for nought because Jay is now a Chicago Bear and Kyle Orton is  Denver Bronco.  Never thought I would write that sentence, yikes!  Don’t get me wrong, I will root of Kyle and hopefully he will lead the broncos to victory.  We have to be realistic though in the predicitions for the broncos.  I am thinking 6 and 10.   Don’t get me wrong, I hope for better, but I am realistic too.  As much as certain fans want to be so quick to defend the new head coach, ultimately he traded a Honda Accord for a Porsche and the NFL is not about who is getting the better gas mileage.  Josh definitely gets a Bozo award for the week.

Next up, still in local news, we have Denver in a budget crisis of sorts.  I am on a few mailing lists of some of the local representatives and received a town hall meeting reminder in regards to the budget.  Denver’s current leadership is very worried about the coming budget because there is such a gap in funding.  To correct this situation there are multiple bills on the floor or ready to go to the floor that cover various ways to resolve this issue. The most amazing part of this however is the notion that not a one of these bills cuts or reduces funding.  Even at the state level this mentality of government waste is run amok.   Citizens are spending less, losing jobs in record numbers, and these governments are increasing their programs and services.  WE ARE OUT OF MONEY!!  Cut some of the programs and services, yes it is a tough job, but just get it done.

G20 Summit.  What a cluster this thing is.  I swear, every agenda item coming out of there is making the founding fathers roll over in their graves.  I’m sorry, i just don’t like the idea of socialism and I think we are going down a poor road.  It is one of those things that drives me cookoo enough that I don’t even know where to begin.
